Recently, we had the pleasure of helping the Boyer family from Kentucky transform their son Sebastian’s room into a nature-inspired “big boy” space, complete with our Everglades House Bed and matching Mini Dog Bed for their beloved pup, Dixie.
A Family with a Love for Adventure
The Boyer family keeps busy with four-year-old Sebastian, Dixie the dog (age 14), and parents Emily and Jordan.
Like many families, they enjoy the simple joys of family life, from fun activities together at home to exciting vacations at Disney World. Sebastian especially loves roller coasters, and as he entered preschool, his parents decided it was time to update his room to reflect his growing sense of adventure.
A Nature-Themed Big Boy Room
When Emily and Jordan set out to create Sebastian’s new room, they decided on a nature and adventure theme. They found inspiration in some charming mountain prints on Etsy and used that as the basis for the entire room’s decor. With the goal of keeping the room colorful yet simple, they chose paint colors “Secluded Garden” for the three main walls and “Shady Palm” as an accent wall. To complement the rustic, natural feel of the room, they selected a Varathane Brand stain in Provincial for the bed's finish.
Emily noted, “I didn’t want everything to be neutral, but also didn’t want it to be too busy.” The result was a balanced, serene space that reflects Sebastian’s adventurous spirit while maintaining a clean, simple design.

A Space They Both Love
It didn’t take long to see how much Sebastian and Dixie loved their new beds. According to Emily, “When it’s bedtime and we head to his room, he immediately goes and gets in his bed.” The low profile of the Everglades House Bed gave Sebastian the independence to climb in and out easily, which he loved.
And it’s not just Sebastian who’s enjoying the new setup. Dixie, at 14 years old, loves that both her bed and Sebastian’s are low enough for her to jump in and out of on her own.
“She always goes with us for bedtime,” Emily shared, “sometimes she gets right in her bed, and sometimes she gets in the big bed.”
